Scarface: The World Is Yours PC Re-release Raises More Questions Than Answers

The video game Scarface: The World is Yours, a sequel to the 1983 film starring Al Pacino, came out in 2006. It’s been hard to find for years, but it recently appeared on the Epic Games Store and Steam as a possible re-release. However, the publisher listed, EC Digital, is unknown, so it’s uncertain if the re-release will actually happen.

PC Gamer reports that Scarface: The World is Yours was mistakenly made available on the Epic Games Store before its intended release date, and it’s still listed there. Steam also had the game up early and provided a reason for the accidental launch.

A technical problem with our system caused the game to be released on one platform before we intended. We want to assure everyone that Steam is our main platform, and we’re working hard to get the game fully ready for release there as quickly as possible.

When a version of the game Scarface was released early, people like Wario64 noticed it included two fan-created patches – SilentPatch and Fusion Fix – that fix issues and make the game work. The creator of SilentPatch, known as Silent, said these patches were added without their permission, but also admitted it wasn’t a strict legal issue, just a courtesy that would have been appreciated.

We couldn’t find any contact information for EC Digital, and it’s unclear if Universal Music Group approved this re-release. After the first reports surfaced, EC Digital posted on Steam that they’ve requested Valve temporarily remove the game page while they resolve licensing and technical issues.

EC Digital explains that the surprise early release of the game caused problems with their plans. They apologize for any confusion or worry this caused players, and promise to announce immediately if they can make the game available again in the future.

It doesn’t look like this project is moving ahead at the moment. But good news for fans – the Scarface Ultimate Collector’s Edition came out on Blu-ray earlier this month.
