Scalpers are selling Stranger Things Season 5 finale cinema tickets at 275% increase

Okay, so the tickets for the Stranger Things Season 5 finale haven’t even all been snapped up yet, but scalpers are already at it. I’m seeing some listings for, like, 275% over the original price! It’s ridiculous – trying to make a quick buck off fans before most of us even have a chance to get tickets.

Originally, the Duffer brothers and Netflix planned to release the final episode of Stranger Things – Season 5 – only on their streaming service. But in October, they surprised fans by announcing it would also be shown in some movie theaters.

The eighth episode, titled ‘The Rightside Up’, will be shown in over 500 movie theaters across the US and Canada starting at 5pm Pacific Time on December 31, 2025. It will also become available on Netflix at that time, and will continue to be shown in theaters on January 1, 2026.

There was a little confusion about how these tickets were sold – we’ll explain more in a moment. The theaters were only accepting vouchers for seat reservations. If your local theater is sold out, you may still be able to get a seat, but it will likely be more expensive.

Stranger Things Season 5 finale cinema tickets are being resold

Tickets went on sale less than a day ago, but people are already reselling them on eBay. One listing is offering two tickets for $150.

Since this is a Cinemark theater, and they’re offering concession vouchers for $20, that’s a significant price jump – a 275% increase. These tickets are valid for the Cinemark The Woodlands and XD location in Texas, if you’re looking to go and have some extra money to spend.

So, I’ve been checking around, and some people are actually selling their tickets for less than face value – it really depends on where you are and how many you need. I just saw one listing on eBay for four tickets to the AMC 34th St in New York for only $80, which is awesome because that’s no markup at all!

If the show you want to see is sold out, check Facebook and other social media sites – people are often reselling their tickets there at current prices.

We anticipate seeing more items added in the next few days, as there’s still room, but thankfully, the situation isn’t nearly as extreme as the recent frenzy over Sydney Sweeney’s bathwater.

Most fans of Stranger Things are upset with the movie theaters. Companies like Regal announced tickets would be available starting December 2nd at 8am Pacific Time / 11am Eastern Time, and many people waited for that time, but experienced issues.

However, earlier that day, customers could purchase concession vouchers on websites like Regal. These vouchers are essentially prepaid coupons used to buy snacks and drinks at the movie theater.

However, at 8am Pacific Time, it became clear that fans couldn’t actually buy tickets yet – they could only reserve seats by purchasing a concession voucher. This caused frustration, and one Reddit user claimed that Cinemark and Regal had misled people about when tickets would become available.

I set an alarm for 7:50 AM to try and buy tickets for the final showing, but I had a feeling I should stay up until I could get them. Turns out, Cinemark and Regal started selling tickets earlier than expected last night, and now almost all showings are sold out, which is making a lot of people upset.

I feel fortunate I was awake and able to snag seats in the third row, but it was frustrating for those who expected tickets to go on sale at 8am PT and were left waiting when they were suddenly released at a different time.

I’m really frustrated that the seats I got weren’t very good – I feel like I could have had much better ones. Cinemark and Regal need to improve their seating arrangements; it’s unacceptable when this happens.

Someone shared that they finally managed to get tickets for the 8:15 showing, but it was a frustrating experience. They explained that they saw an announcement on Monday saying tickets would be released on Tuesday, but it didn’t specify a time. They also noticed reports that some theaters had already started selling tickets on Monday night.

I’m still not seeing showtimes for this movie on Fandango in my location. I tried using the Regal app – I found a showing on Tuesday and even picked my seat. But when it asked if I wanted to use a concession voucher, and I didn’t, the app wouldn’t let me continue to purchase the ticket.

We discovered two hours before the show that we needed to choose a concession voucher to get our tickets, because Regal can’t directly charge for a Netflix event. It would have been helpful to share this information with everyone when tickets first went on sale, instead of waiting until the last minute.

Another person chimed in, saying they almost got tickets the night before, but mistakenly believed the voucher for snacks was an extra purchase and that tickets weren’t on sale yet.

I noticed some seats were already occupied, and I assumed they were probably reserved for staff or frequent customers. It was frustrating, and I ended up getting tickets after an hour of worrying about it! The experience at the concessions stand was really strange.

The first part of Stranger Things Season 5 is now available to watch on Netflix, and the second part will be released on Christmas Day.
