Saros Is Returnal Developer Housemarque’s New Game, Starring Rahul Kohli

In a showcase at the PlayStation State of Play event held in February 2025, Housemarque announced their upcoming game titled Saros. This acclaimed studio intends to release it in 2026 exclusively on the PlayStation 5 platform, with added optimizations for the PlayStation 5 Pro version.

In simpler terms, Saros is a solitary action game where you assume the role of Arjun Devraj, portrayed by Rahul Kohli (from Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Bly Manor). You find yourself marooned on an extraterrestrial planet much like the one in Returnal. According to Housemarque’s creative director Gregory Louden, Saros represents a progression of the Housemarque gameplay-focused experience, drawing inspiration from the structure of Returnal.

In a blog post for PlayStation, Louden explained that what sets Saros apart from Returnal is that it offers permanent resources and progression, making every defeat significant. After each failure, you’ll encounter an altered world, but in Saros, you can select and permanently enhance your gear from a growing collection of weapons and suit upgrades to better equip yourself for the obstacles on Carcosa and rise stronger each time.

On the planet Carcosa, where Devraj finds himself imprisoned, lies a puzzling landscape shrouded in the perpetual shadow of an eclipse and subject to continuous transformation. In the State of Play stream and on the PlayStation Blog, Louden merely hinted at Saros without disclosing further details. However, he did mention that Housemarque intends to unveil the gameplay for this enigma later in 2025.
