Sandro Aguilar’s film titled “First Person Plural” is now showcased at the International Film Festival Rotterdam within the Tiger Competition. The movie’s official trailer has been unveiled by EbMaster.
The movie is created by O Som E A Fúria, a production house known for making “Tabu” and “Arabian Nights,” directed by Miguel Gomes, “The Portuguese Nun,” directed by Eugène Green, and “Zama,” directed by Lucrecia Martel.
As a film enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the release of “First Person Plural,” a captivating tale that follows Mateus Lagoa and his wife Irene. The couple is preparing to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary at an opulent island resort, leaving their teenage son behind temporarily. However, on the eve of their departure, an unexpected night apart leads them into a harrowing ordeal as vaccine side effects take hold—fevers, fainting, and hallucinations ensue. A melancholic atmosphere settles over their world, hinting at unseen perils that may lie ahead.
In Aguilar’s words: “Upon waking up at their picturesque hideaway, Mateus and Irene find the surroundings drastically altered to a luxurious escape filled with hotels, massages, cocktails, earthly rewards that resemble stereotypes, and everything seems to hold a ceremonial air. It’s as if everyone there had already lived and died multiple times. By now, one would expect no retribution, but this dreamlike delusion of paradise, manipulated by a dimly amused yet seemingly bored malevolent spirit, appears designed. Although he entertains by offering love stories and setting traps for his subjects, this demon seems unable to untangle their connections, or break their enduring affection.
The movie features Albano Jerónimo, Isabel Abreu, and Eduardo Aguilar as the main actors. The production team includes Sandro Aguilar, Luís Urbano, and Alessandro Borrelli as producers. La Sarraz Pictures collaborates on this production, while Portugal Film is responsible for handling worldwide distribution.
Sandro Aguilar boasts a past repertoire that encompasses “Mariphasa” and “Uprise.” His short films, namely “The Serpent” and “Corpo e Meio,” have garnered nominations for the prestigious European Film Awards.
