Okay, so I just heard from Samsung that those fancy Family Hub fridges are now showing ads! It started after a recent software update, and at first it was just rumors about the change log, but Samsung has now confirmed it’s actually happening on the fridge door screens. It’s a little weird, honestly, to see ads on my fridge!
Samsung told Android Authority that it’s testing ads on the screens of some of its Family Hub refrigerators as part of a new program for promotions and targeted advertising. The update comes with revised terms of service and a privacy notice, and the ads will show up on the refrigerator’s cover screen when it’s not being used.
Samsung has clarified that ads on Cover Screens will only appear with certain themes like Weather, Color, and Daily Board. They won’t show up when you’re using Art Mode or viewing your personal photos. Plus, once you dismiss an ad, you won’t see it again during the current promotion, and the exact look of the ads might change based on how you customize your Cover Screen.

Ads on idle screens
Samsung is updating its Family Hub refrigerators in the U.S. with new Terms of Service and Privacy Notice information through a software update delivered over the internet. This is part of a test program.
You’ll see ads on your Family Hub refrigerator’s Cover Screen when it’s not actively being used. The look of the ads might adjust based on how you’ve customized the Cover Screen, but you won’t see ads when you’re displaying artwork or photos on it.
Samsung explained that while users can’t completely eliminate ads on their refrigerators, they can dismiss each ad individually. Turning off the fridge’s internet connection would stop the ads, but it would also disable its smart features. These Family Hub refrigerators currently cost between $1,800 and $3,500 in the US, although Samsung hasn’t specified which models are being used in the ad test.
