The latest trailer for Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die reveals Sam Rockwell traveling back in time to prevent a dangerous AI from destroying the world. He plays a character called the Man From the Future, and to get help with his mission, he takes a group of people hostage inside a Los Angeles diner.
Briarcliff Entertainment just released a trailer for their new film. It starts with a child climbing out of a snow-covered bunker and finding a strange black object. As we see kids and teenagers constantly on their phones, a character named Rockwell warns, “There’s something big coming that I can’t prepare you for.” This ‘Man From the Future’ character explains that a new artificial intelligence will appear to give people everything they desire, but it will all be based on a deception. You can watch the trailer here:
The video shows people in the diner continuing to ignore the strangely dressed man who claims to be from the future. He finally gets their attention by dramatically throwing their phones, declaring they are the key to saving the world. What follows is chaotic: scenes of his new ‘allies’ covered in blood and strange tentacles, and a car being destroyed by a massive creature.
A new poster was released alongside the trailer. It features a close-up of the main character’s head tangled in wires, which cleverly incorporate the names of other actors and various items. You can see it below.
Sam Rockwell stars in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, alongside Juno Temple, Michael Peña, Haley Lu Richardson, Zazie Beetz, Asim Chaudry, and Tom Taylor. This marks director Gore Verbinski’s first film in a decade, following 2016’s A Cure for Wellness.
Before 2016, Gore Verbinski directed films like The Ring, the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Rango, and The Lone Ranger. His latest project is a science-fiction film written by Matthew Robinson, who also wrote Dora and the Lost City of Gold and Love and Monsters starring Dylan O’Brien.
Lots of movies feature time travel and stopping evil AI, like the Terminator films. But the trailer for Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die suggests this one will be a more lighthearted and playful take on those familiar themes.
The film premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2025 and has been well-received so far, earning a 94% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews frequently highlight director Verbinski’s work as surprising, funny, unsettling, and insightful, touching on several current issues. Sam Rockwell’s acting has also been praised.
The R-rated film Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die hits theaters on February 13th, just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. It’s one of several new movies coming out that weekend, alongside Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights, a film featuring Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo called Crime 101, and the animated comedy Goat. This gives moviegoers a lot of different options to choose from.
