Toho Games announced that Sakuna of Rice and Ruin: Hinuka’s Traversing Spirit Tale will launch on mobile devices in Japan in February 2026. The game will be free to play on both Android and iOS.
The company also released a recap of the game’s features shown during today’s livestream. The new game will include characters from both the original Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin and its anime version, plus several completely new characters in addition to the recently revealed protagonist, Hinuka.
You can unlock characters by buying them directly from the shop using either paid currency or Yakumo Shards earned in the game. These same Shards are also used in gacha pulls to get soul gems, which strengthen characters, and illustrations that boost their stats.

Growing rice will be a core part of the game. Once planted, players can carefully manage their crops, which will affect how good the harvest is when it’s ready after six hours. Players can also use items to change the weather and surroundings, leading to even better harvests. This harvested rice can then be used to boost a character’s abilities.

Players can choose from 16 different types of rice, each with its own unique spirit companion. One spirit can be added to a battle party, which can hold up to four characters. During dungeon exploration, players directly control the party leader.

The stream also introduced the characters and rice spirits that will be available at launch:
