The first trailer and release date are here for the upcoming live-action movie based on the popular Netflix anime, Sakamoto Days. The movie was first announced three months ago, and an official poster featuring the main character, Sakamoto Toro, was revealed at that time.
Sakamoto Days live-action movie sets April 2026 release date
The official X account (formerly Twitter) just dropped the first trailer for the live-action Sakamoto Days movie, and announced it will premiere in Japan on April 29, 2026. A release date for other countries hasn’t been announced yet. The movie is planned to be released in two installments.
The short, 30-second trailer gives fans a first look at the movie. It opens with Taro Sakamoto, looking young and in good shape, reloading his weapon and doing stunts as he fights off enemies.
The scene shifts to show an older, heavier Sakamoto enjoying his retirement. Then, suddenly, we see him powerfully kicking an intruder, Shin Asakura, at the convenience store where he works.
The video then shows Asakura firing back at those attacking him, while Sakamoto and his family are seen having fun on a roller coaster. The clip ends with Sakamoto leaping and performing a kick.
The Sakamoto Days movie and anime series are both based on the popular manga by Yuto Suzuki. Yuichi Fukuda, who previously directed the live-action Gintama film, directed and wrote the screenplay for the movie. Keiya Tabuchi, known for his work on the live-action Attack on Titan, was in charge of the film’s action direction.
Ren Meguro, a member of the popular group Snow Man, will play the lead role of Taro Sakamoto. He’ll be joined by Fumiya Takahashi as Shin Asakura, Aya Ueto as Taro’s wife, Aoi, and Miyu Yoshimoto as their daughter, Hana.
Sakamoto Days is about Sakamoto, a former assassin who’s now trying to live a normal life and protect his family. He’s come out of retirement to face threats from his old criminal world, but his wife insists he avoid killing, so he tries to deal with enemies using minimal force.
