Sakamoto Days Episode 2: Major Character Introduced, Manga Chapter Cut!

In a fresh update, Episode 2 of Sakamoto Days has just been added to Netflix (having been launched in Japan a week prior). This episode introduces the character, Lu Shaotang, while trimming down a character that makes an appearance in Chapter 3.

As a dedicated viewer, I’d like to reassure fellow fans who might be worried about the animation quality. The animation in this episode maintains the same high standard as the very first one we watched. There are certain scenes where the focus shifts from action to creating a more profound impact.

In Episode 2, we’re introduced to Lu Shaotang, a member of the powerful Lu clan, which has ties to the Triad. Her late parents passed down a key to a secret family vault before their passing in the manga, and now, she finds herself pursued by a hostile faction.

In Niikita’s Chinatown, she unexpectedly encounters Shin and Sakamoto. They show compassion and offer assistance to her. However, an opposing group dispatches Son Hee and Bacho, ruthless twin assassins. The trio manages to subdue them successfully. As a result of their bravery, Lu now works at Sakamoto’s convenience store.

Instead, this episode combines incidents from Chapters 2, 4, and 5, omitting entirely the happenings in Chapter 3, which would have included the introduction of Officer Nakase.

Who are Lu Shaotang and Officer Nakase?

In this season, Lu is set to play a significant role as a supporting character. However, it’s probable that her time with us will be brief. Initially appearing frequently, she eventually fades from the narrative.

When Suzuki attempted to make her a main character, viewers weren’t fond of it. Consequently, manga sales plummeted, causing her to be sidelined. As a result, some fans humorously inquire “Who is this girl?” when mentioning her in promotional materials and trailers, since she becomes insignificant to the narrative.

In Chapter 3, there’s a character named Nakase, formerly involved in an episode, who has a strong desire to aid others. She makes her debut when she reprimands Sakamoto and Shin for parking their vehicle in an unsuitable location. Later on, she becomes wary of them due to her suspicions.

Subsequently, as Nakase steps in to prevent a group of men from bothering a woman, she discovers they belong to a criminal gang and have illicit substances. This places her in an instant perilous situation, but fortunately, Sakamoto and Shin manage to rescue her.

Removing this particular chapter from the adaptation seems logical since Officer Nakase hasn’t resurfaced in the narrative so far. Initially, it was assumed she might be a recurring character in the series, but as of now, that prediction has not come to fruition.

The tale might yet incorporate this chapter in future installments, adjusting it appropriately (and possibly it might find a place in a self-contained special episode instead).

What’s next for the story?

Towards the close of Episode 2, following the closing credits, a scene unfolds showing the mafia placing a 1 billion yen reward on Sakamoto’s life. Consequently, it seems likely that numerous assassins will be targeting him in the upcoming episodes.

In the upcoming episode, we’re probably going to meet Nagumo, a significant character and long-time friend of Sakamoto. It’s expected that he’ll pass along information about a reward to Sakamoto.

In the meantime, feel free to explore further details about other Winter 2025 anime series such as Solo Leveling, Dr. Stone, and The Apothecary Diaries.
