Saints Row Creative Director Wants To Bring The Franchise Back From The Dead

The Saints Row series might be making a comeback. Chris Stockman, who led the design on the original game, is developing a proposal for a new installment that aims to recapture the spirit of the early titles.

According to a post on the Saints Row Reddit, developer Stockman is working on a pitch for a potential prequel to the Saints Row series. He hinted that the project is progressing beyond the idea stage, but couldn’t share further details. He also clarified that the pitch isn’t for a virtual reality game.

Speaking with PCGamesN, Stockman explained he’s trying to reunite the original team to work on a new game. He wants to return the Saints Row series to its original style, feeling it’s drifted too far from what made it special. While he understands the reasons for the changes, he believes the series ultimately reached a point where it had limited options.

Just because a new Saints Row game is being considered doesn’t guarantee it will actually happen. Getting an idea approved and securing funding are separate hurdles. Glen Schofield, who previously led the development of Callisto Protocol, recently explained how difficult it is to get a new game project approved. However, he’s already started working on getting Dead Space 4 approved now that EA, its parent company, is preparing to become a privately held company in a $55 billion deal.

The 2022 game Saints Row turned out to be Volition’s last project before the studio closed in 2023. While it received mixed reviews, Embracer Group considered it a commercial failure. After the closure, Matthew Karch, founder of Saber Interactive, noted that Volition had become too costly to keep running.
