Ryan Reynolds’ Mayday Movie Gets Apple TV Premiere Date

Okay, so Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh are starring in a new comedy together, and honestly, that’s already a win. It’s called Mayday, and it’s directed by the guys who brought us Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is a good sign. The big news? You’ll only be able to watch it on Apple TV when it drops. I’m already intrigued!

Apple TV announced that the new movie Mayday will be available to stream worldwide on September 4th. According to Apple TV, it’s an action-comedy that puts a fresh spin on the classic spy thriller.

The story follows Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy Kelly, call sign “Assassin” (played by Reynolds), who undertakes a dangerous, secret mission into Russia during the Cold War. When the mission fails, he finds himself stranded in enemy territory. He’s discovered by Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a former KGB agent who surprisingly has a fondness for American things. Troy expects the worst, but an unexpected partnership develops between the two men, potentially leading to Troy’s escape and a surprising friendship.

The new Apple Original Film, Mayday, comes from writers, directors, and producers Daley and Goldstein. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger of Skydance are producing, along with Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau from Maximum Effort. Ryan Reynolds and George Dewey are executive producers through Maximum Effort, with John G. Scott also contributing. The film’s cast includes Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova, David Morse, and others. A preview photo from Mayday is available below.

Daley & Goldstein’s Next Project Revealed

In November 2025, the filmmaking pair revealed they would be writing, directing, and producing a brand new Star Trek movie.

In November, Paramount announced that the new Star Trek movie idea is a fresh start for the franchise, completely separate from past Star Trek stories. This suggests the film will feature a brand new group of characters.

The new Star Trek movie, if it comes to theaters, will be the first Star Trek film shown in cinemas since 2016. While Paramount+ did stream Star Trek: Section 31 in January 2025, it wasn’t released in theaters. Currently, there’s no confirmed release date for the Star Trek project from Daley and Goldstein.

Mayday will premiere on Apple TV on Sept. 4.
