Russians Fights Stalker 2 by Buying Negative Reviews

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for Eastern European gaming culture and a keen eye for industry manipulation, I can’t help but feel a pang of disbelief and frustration when I hear about the latest review bombing scandal surrounding STALKER 2.

The latest game release, STALKER 2, has unfortunately become a target for review bombing again. It appears that someone is intentionally trying to tarnish the game’s reputation and undermine its current popularity by employing questionable strategies, such as internet circulated incentives for negative reviews.

It appears that some Russians are providing incentives for people to post unfavorable comments or reviews about a particular game on platforms like Steam and TikTok. This information seems to be spreading through Telegram, though it could potentially reach other popular online media as well. What has left the players puzzled isn’t the act of review manipulation itself – such incidents have occurred in the past with this game. Instead, what has caught their attention is the extremely low compensation rate offered, which seems to be an attempt to persuade gamers into writing negative feedback.

We won’t make money on this

It seems that getting paid for comments on TikTok might be disappointing, as you’d only earn around 80 kopecks, which is less than one US cent. On the other hand, a video published on TikTok could potentially earn you half a cent (for every 200 views). In contrast, a negative review on Steam could net you 100 rubles, or about one US dollar, if you follow the provided template by the platform’s employer.

If volunteers showcase higher aspirations and pen down personal reviews without relying on a pre-set template, they might be rewarded between 350 rubles ($3) and 450 rubles ($4). This is contingent upon them displaying exceptional skill in their work (such as discussing optimization, bugs, etc.).

Fight fire with fire

As a gamer myself, I can’t help but feel disappointed by the less-than-impressive rates this game is currently offering. It’s clear that many of us who have been discussing it on Reddit and other platforms are well aware of this issue. But instead of letting it tarnish the game’s image, we see it as an opportunity to expose those trying to manipulate the situation. We’re turning lemons into lemonade, so to speak.

Essentially, these troll farms are providing a 5% discount for the game. All you need to do is spend $3 and alter your review to be positive again.

To put it another way, despite the lighthearted tone, it’s important to note that the ongoing situation is significantly influenced by the fact that STALKER 2, at this point, has become a potent emblem of Ukrainians’ resilience and resistance against Russian hostility. The creators themselves refer to the game as a heartfelt tribute to Ukraine, crafted amidst challenging conditions.

The mere fact of its existence is a way for them to declare to the entire world that they live, exist, and have a distinct identity for which they won’t stop fighting. Despite the technical problems present in the game, the title is very successful – which certainly can’t be easy to swallow for the opponent.
