So, I was reading this crazy story – apparently, a guy working at a factory in Russia got a huge paycheck by mistake, like $87,000! It was a total clerical error, but now he’s just…keeping the money. He’s refusing to give it back, which is wild, right? I mean, you’d think he’d feel bad, but nope! It’s a pretty unbelievable situation.
Vladimir Rychagov, a factory worker in western Russia, received a surprisingly large paycheck due to an error. Instead of just his own wages, he was accidentally paid the salaries of all his colleagues, too.
In addition to his regular vacation pay, Rychagov received seven million rubles—about $87,000—on payday. It was much more than he normally earned, but he wasn’t going to question the unexpected bonus.
A local news report revealed that a factory mistakenly paid a man, Rychagov, the salaries of 34 employees from another location due to an error in their accounting system. The company immediately asked him to return the money, but he refused.

After his requests were ignored, Rychagov’s workplace allegedly started to harass and threaten him, so he had to get a new phone number. He used an unexpected payment he received to buy a car and then left the area with his family.
The situation worsened when the company reported Rychagov to the police, claiming he and an accountant had worked together to steal money from them.
The legal investigation caused his bank account to be frozen, but he was released after investigators found no proof of any crime. However, he’s still legally obligated to return the funds, and he’s determined to hold onto his wealth despite this.
He told Channel 5 that his colleagues had been discussing a large New Year’s bonus, which is why he initially decided to keep the money. He believes he doesn’t have to give the funds back and is now taking the case to Russia’s Supreme Court.
He explained that he’d checked online and discovered he was responsible for returning the money if the problem was technical, but the company was responsible if it was a billing issue. When he found out it was a technical error, he decided he was allowed to keep the funds.
