Russell Crowe is enjoying a resurgence in popularity, boosted by the streaming release of his new political thriller. The Oscar-winning actor, known for diverse roles in films like Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, Man of Steel, Thor: Love and Thunder, Unhinged, and The Pope’s Exorcist, is now facing off against fellow Oscar winner Rami Malek in a gripping courtroom drama that’s proving more exciting than even a return to the Jurassic World franchise.
Written and directed by James Vanderbilt (known for Zodiac and Scream), Nuremberg stars Russell Crowe and Rami Malek. The film, which originally premiered in theaters in September 2025, is now available on Netflix. Based on Jack El-Hai’s 2013 book, The Nazi and the Psychiatrist, Nuremberg depicts the famous Nuremberg trials, focusing on the intense psychological battle between a U.S. Army psychiatrist (Malek) and the accused Nazi war criminal Hermann Göring (Crowe).
The series Nuremberg is currently the second most popular show on Netflix in the US, surpassing the latest Jurassic film, Jurassic World Rebirth, and all other movies in the Jurassic franchise. However, even with a popular actor, it hasn’t been able to beat Reacher star Alan Ritchson, who remains at number one with his action film, War Machine.
Russell Crowe Received Praise for His Performance in ‘Nuremberg’
The film Nuremberg, starring Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and a talented ensemble cast including Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Mark O’Brien, and Michael Shannon, was a box office success. It earned $45 million worldwide on a $10 million production budget and received generally positive reviews, earning a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Viewers were much more captivated by the compelling dynamic between Russell Crowe and Rami Malek, and Nuremberg now boasts a very high 95% rating on the Popcornmeter, also labeled as “Verified Hot.” Both lead actors received significant praise, with audiences calling their performances a “thought-provoking psychological duel” that powerfully portrays the historical events. Even Julian Roman from MovieWeb, while having some overall criticisms of the film, acknowledged Crowe’s excellent portrayal of Hermann Göring and complimented Dariusz Wolski’s appropriately serious cinematography.

Wow, Russell Crowe is seriously on a roll! After Nuremberg, he’s jumping into all sorts of projects, which is awesome to see. I just found out he’s working with Derrick Borte again – the guy who directed Unhinged – on an action thriller called Bear Country. And get this – he’s teaming up with Ethan Hawke for a Depression-era survival movie, The Weight. But that’s not all! He’s even reuniting with Henry Cavill for a Highlander reboot – finally! Plus, he’s got a Cold War thriller called The Billion Dollar Spy coming up, and it sounds like he’s getting back to his action hero days with The Last Druid, which feels a bit like Gladiator. Oh, and to top it all off, he’s playing a mentor to an MMA fighter in a movie called Beast. Seriously, the guy is everywhere, and I’m here for it!
