Rush Hour 4 is going ahead after unexpected request

A fourth Rush Hour movie is officially happening at Paramount, bringing Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan back together after almost 20 years. The project is reportedly gaining momentum thanks to a surprising advocate.

The original Rush Hour movies were incredibly popular and left a lasting mark on pop culture. The films followed the hilarious partnership between Lee, a Hong Kong police inspector, and James Carter, a Los Angeles detective, as they solved crimes in both Hong Kong and Los Angeles.

Although critics were divided, the films were very popular with audiences, bringing in over $850 million worldwide between 1998 and 2007. However, a fourth movie that had been talked about for years has been stuck in development since the late 2000s, likely due to changing priorities at the studio and other issues.

I was so excited to hear the news this week – it looks like Rush Hour 4 is actually happening! Apparently, one particular fan’s request might have been a big reason why the studio finally decided to make it happen.

Rush Hour 4 is going ahead after unexpected push

According to sources at Deadline, a fourth Rush Hour movie is in development at Paramount. This news follows a report from Semafor indicating that former US President Donald Trump encouraged Larry Ellison, a part-owner and financial supporter of the studio, to bring the popular buddy cop series back to life.

After Skydance bought Paramount earlier this year, Larry Ellison’s son, David Ellison, became the studio’s CEO, increasing the family’s power there.

I was a huge fan of the first three Rush Hour movies – New Line Cinema, which is part of Warner Bros., released them. But it’s crazy to think that a bunch of different studios actually passed on making the fourth one! It’s hard to believe now, looking back.

Although many in Hollywood were reluctant, Paramount has decided to participate in the new movie, but in a small way. According to Variety, instead of helping to fund or promote the film, Paramount will only be responsible for getting it into theaters, and they’ll receive a fixed payment for doing so.

Warner Bros. will be paid first from the sequel’s box office earnings. This means the studio receives a share of the revenue before anyone who helped finance the movie gets their money back.

Brett Ratner is directing again, which has caused some concern. He’s known for the Rush Hour movies, but his career was put on hold in 2017 following accusations of sexual assault during the #MeToo movement.

Rush Hour 4 will be Dwayne Johnson’s first movie role since Hercules in 2014. He’s returning to acting after finishing a documentary about Melania Trump for Amazon.

Details about the movie’s story are still secret, and filming hasn’t started yet, so there’s no confirmed release date. However, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are both officially returning to reprise their roles as Lee and Carter, marking their first on-screen pairing in nearly two decades.
