Discussing the hack-and-slash genre, few games are as renowned and associated with it as Devil May Cry (DMC). Though DMC5 provided one of the series’ finest installments, seemingly concluding the narrative, hints from a voice actor imply that the legendary saga may not have reached its end – here’s what we know so far.
New Devil May Cry Game Rumored After Voice Actor’s Comments
If you’ve been out of the loop (and given the low-key phase of the DMC series lately, it’s understandable), there was a Devil May Cry 25th Anniversary panel at Power Morphicon 2024. Notably, Daniel Southworth, who voices Vergil, was one of the main speakers. During this panel, a fan asked Southworth about his experience reprising his role as Vergil in Devil May Cry 5 after so many years had passed.
In response, Southworth detailed that he reprised his role as Vergil in Devil May Cry 5 roughly 15 years following Devil May Cry 3. He pointed out that, given the passage of time for both him and the character, it seemed fitting for him to voice Vergil. He suggested that any variations in Vergil’s voice could be attributed to the natural progression of his age. Yet, it was his subsequent statement that sparked intrigue.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that Southworth himself dropped a hint about his recent involvement with an undisclosed Capcom project! He was tapped to lend his voice to a younger Vergil, echoing the character’s portrayal from 2004. While he kept mum about the specifics of the role or the game, his statement reminded us all of Devil May Cry 3, which graced our screens in 2004/2005. The anticipation is real!
There’s growing speculation that we might get a reworking or enhanced version of Devil May Cry, given the significant impact DMC3 had on the genre and the series. Fans have long hoped for a remake, as it was a pivotal game in the franchise’s history. However, it could also be an entirely new game, perhaps centering around Vergil or another title that explores his younger years.
At present, it’s uncertain what lies ahead, but fans are eagerly anticipating the potential comeback of some renowned characters from the early-to-mid 2000s, such as Dante and Vergil. Stay tuned for more information, as we’ll be monitoring this situation closely and sharing any news regarding the potential launch of a new Devil May Cry game.
