Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is facing a Christmas deadline to determine if the company will be sold, either completely or in part, and to which buyer. Recent reports indicate Saudi Arabia is now interested, and sources tell Cosmic Book News that, in addition to Warner Bros.’ valuable properties, Saudi Arabia specifically wants the DC films created by Zack Snyder – often called the ‘Snyderverse’.
As a huge movie fan, I’ve been following Zack Snyder’s Instagram lately, and he’s been sharing a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff from his time working on the DC movies. It’s got me wondering – like Cosmic Book News pointed out – could he be hinting at a possible return to his vision for the DC Universe, and is Saudi Arabia somehow involved in making that happen?
Snyderverse Speculation
On November 4th, Zack Snyder got people talking when he posted a photo of Henry Cavill as Superman, calling it a “rare color polaroid” and saying he “loved” the image. While posting a photo doesn’t necessarily mean anything is planned, it was enough to get fans excited about the possibility of seeing Cavill return as Superman.

There’s talk that if Warner Bros. Discovery is sold, James Gunn might lose his position leading DC Studios. The latest Superman film didn’t quite gain traction for the new DC Universe, and a dedicated group of fans still support the previous vision, known as the Snyderverse. These fans believe that, after successfully campaigning for Warner Bros. to release Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League, they could potentially influence future decisions.

Although it sounds unlikely, Zack Snyder does have ties to Saudi Arabia. He recently partnered with the UFC to create a new show called Brawler. A key producer on the show is Turki Alalshikh, who leads Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. He likely has the financial resources to potentially purchase Warner Bros. Discovery and revive the Snyderverse with stars like Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ben Affleck.

According to Cosmic Book News, Hollywood is currently negotiating large deals with Saudi Arabia, involving figures like Donald Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Saudi Arabia is reportedly looking to invest heavily in major entertainment properties, popular franchises, and intellectual property for large-scale theme parks.
Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) owns incredibly popular fantasy franchises like Harry Potter, Dune, and The Lord of the Rings – properties any movie studio would want. While DC Studios might not revisit the style of Zack Snyder’s films, it could become a major asset for Saudi Arabia, depending on what the country hopes to achieve in the entertainment industry.
Why It’s Unlikely Saudi Arabia Will Restore the Snyderverse
When rumors started about Saudi Arabia wanting to buy Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), it wasn’t clear what their involvement would be. One Hollywood insider, Patrick Caligiuri, said a deal to completely buy the studio was almost done. But another source, Matthew Belloni from Puck, suggested Saudi Arabia might only be providing financial support to Comcast’s attempt to acquire WBD.

No matter which offer Zaslav chooses, the deal still needs to be approved by regulators.
Fans hoping for a revival of Zack Snyder’s DC universe (the Snyderverse) shouldn’t get too excited just yet. A source at Cosmic Book News claims Christopher Nolan will also be involved as an executive producer on a future Snyderverse project. While this sounds promising to some, it’s important to remember this hasn’t been officially confirmed by anyone involved.

As a huge film fan, I keep hearing whispers about a potential revival of Zack Snyder’s vision – the ‘Snyderverse.’ But honestly, the amount of money it would take for Saudi Arabia, or any studio, to get all the original actors back together and actually make another film is mind-boggling. And that’s before you even consider the massive task of buying Warner Bros. Discovery and sorting out all the legal issues! Right now, it’s all just unconfirmed rumors and speculation, which is exciting, but we have to remember that.
