Based on unverified data from Nvidia, the predicted release date for the RTX 5090 and 5080 on January 30 proved to be accurate. Surprisingly, retailers were making significant efforts to ensure as many gamers as possible could acquire a GPU. In certain locations, lotteries were even held. Regrettably, securing the top-tier Nvidia graphics card was nearly impossible.
Launch of non-existent graphics cards
Obtaining the RTX 50 series graphics cards has turned into a challenging endeavor close to impossible. On social platforms, gamers have taken to creating humorous memes, and even tech YouTubers such as Gamers Nexus voiced their frustration, unable to secure a review unit for the RTX 5090.
According to general sentiment, this graphics card launch is considered one of the poorest we’ve witnessed. If the prediction by the leaker “Moore’s Law is Dead” holds true, Nvidia seems to be delaying its release until AMD’s RX-9000 series debut. This strategy appears to involve flooding the market with their product later, potentially overshadowing competitors. In other words, if you’re in the market for a new GPU, it might be best to wait until around March, as that’s when AMD’s Radeon series is expected to hit stores.
When looking up “RTX 5090” listings, you will often find misleading offers in the initial results. In these suspicious postings, the vendors explicitly declare that the auction is designed for bots and discourage human buyers from participating. Such seemingly affordable deals, they claim, would only result in purchasing a picture of the RTX 5090 instead.
It appears that the scarcity of graphics cards on the market is a mystery. Even Nvidia employees found it challenging to purchase a card from their own company’s store when there were many RTX 4090s available initially. It would be beneficial if Nvidia provided more information about this issue, but whether they will make a statement beyond confirming collaboration with partners remains uncertain.
