Approximately a year since Rooster Teeth officially closed its doors, Burnie Burns, one of its co-founders, has taken ownership of the brand once more.
In March 2024, Warner Brothers Discovery announced its decision to close a brand that had been around for more than two decades due to failed efforts to find a buyer.
In 2003, Rooster Teeth attained widespread recognition through its pioneering web series Red vs Blue, based on Halo. Over time, they expanded their content to include shows such as RWBY and Gen:LOCK. Additionally, they ran the Roost Podcast Network, which was later sold during the studio’s closure process.

5th of February, 2025, I, a die-hard fan, was thrilled to learn that Burnie Burns, the mastermind behind Rooster Teeth, had snapped up the rest of the company’s treasured assets following his departure in 2020. What a rollercoaster ride it has been!
On the Rooster Teeth site, Burns unveiled that his new venture is affiliated with his production company, Box Canyon Productions.
According to the announcement, this milestone signifies a fresh start for Rooster Teeth, as it gets back under the ownership of its founding creator, within his company Box Canyon Productions. With Burns at the helm, the iconic brand intends to reinvigorate its dedication towards innovation, fostering community interaction, and preserving the creative essence that initially propelled it to greatness.
Additionally mentioned was the news that Box Canyon will offer a variety of performances in 2025, such as revivals of some of their most beloved classics along with a fresh audio experience titled “Again.
It’s unclear when Rooster Teeth will introduce something new, but it’s evident that they are eager to rejuvenate their renowned brand once more.
The news about its resurgence became widespread on social media, primarily due to the initial post on the Rooster Teeth X account in May 2024, which was just a simple statement saying “butts.
As a gamer, I found myself immersed in a whirlwind of comments, with fellow gamers pouring out their thoughts and enthusiasm. A lot of them resorted to using emojis to encapsulate their general feelings.

I wouldn’t have imagined that Burnie would leave, only to return years later to RT, but it did happen,” was stated.
The user stated: “Regardless of what RT turns out to be, I’m certain that with Burnie’s assistance, it will be fantastic.
Recently, it’s not just Rooster Teeth that has been repurchased by one of its original founders; in December, Sean Evans and Chris Schonberger along with some investors, including YouTube personalities Rhett and Link, bought back their company, First We Feast, from Buzzfeed.
