Rooster Teeth Is Back From The Dead, With One Of Its Original Founders In Charge

Once more, Rooster Teeth, the beloved digital entertainment company known for hits such as Red vs. Blue, RWBY, and multiple podcasts, has resurfaced, with its initial co-creator, Burnie Burns, steering the ship.

In a recent announcement, Matt Burns unveiled that his self-established production company, Box Canyon Productions, has taken over the Rooster Teeth brand along with many of its remaining assets. After departing from Rooster Teeth in 2020 and relocating to Scotland with his family, Burns established Box Canyon in 2023. This company is primarily recognized for its popular “Morning Somewhere” podcast. Burns encouraged those curious about the resurrection of Rooster Teeth to listen to the February 5 episode of the “Morning Somewhere” podcast for more details.

In a statement, Burns expressed his eagerness to return Rooster Teeth to its original spirit. He emphasized that the core of the Rooster Teeth brand lies in its fanbase, and he is eager to co-author a fresh chapter with them.

Founded in 2003, Rooster Teeth quickly established itself as a trailblazer in online video content and podcasts, becoming a dominant force on early internet platforms. In 2022, the brand was acquired by Warner Bros. during their merger with AT&T and Discovery. However, due to financial struggles in recent years, Rooster Teeth was closed down by Warner Bros. Discovery in March 2024, resulting in job losses for over 150 full-time employees, as well as numerous part-time contractors and content creators who had worked with the company.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve always looked up to Rooster Teeth for their innovative work on Red vs. Blue, a series that breathed life into Halo’s game models and animations to weave a captivating tale. From the company’s inception until the release of the feature-length film “Red vs. Blue: Restoration” in 2024 (which was initially planned as our 19th season), Red vs. Blue has been a constant in my gaming and entertainment life. However, recent rumors suggest that Warner Bros. Discovery might be considering selling off Rooster Teeth’s flagship properties, including Red vs. Blue. As of now, it remains uncertain if the rights to Red vs. Blue or Rooster Teeth’s other popular shows have been re-acquired by Burns.

In 2023, Rooster Teeth underwent a somewhat contentious rebrand with a fresh logo and motto to mark its 20th anniversary. However, it appears that Burns intends to go back to the brand’s origins by using the original chattering teeth and rooster emblem instead.

Before we relaunch, there’s plenty of work that needs to be done here,” Burns stated on the currently being built Rooster Teeth website. “In the interim, I invite you all to share in my enthusiasm as we bring back a cherished brand that has held significant meaning for countless individuals over the years.
