Albert Gregl, an indie game developer from Croatia, has released a demo of his game, Rod of Asclepius, on Steam for PC. The complete game is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2026.
Rod of Asclepius is a role-playing game set in ancient Rome. You play as a doctor in the 4th century. The complete game is set in the Roman province of Pannonia Secunda (modern-day Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina), but this demo features a separate, self-contained story in a different location.
I’m so excited to share some screenshots from Rod of Asclepius! You can check them out right below this. The demo also has descriptions, and it’s awesome that the game is available in Croatian, English, and Japanese – that way, so many more people can enjoy it!

About this Demo
This demo showcases the Prologue of *Rod of Asclepius*. It’s a standalone introduction designed to teach you the game’s main mechanics in an immersive and focused environment.
Included in this Demo
Embark on a story-rich adventure where you explore beautiful environments, collect herbs, meet interesting characters, and complete medical quests based on historical practices.
Learn the basics of finding clues, figuring out what’s wrong, and providing care within the game’s turn-based medical system.
A standalone story that establishes the themes, tone, and play style of the full game.
Important note
This introductory scenario isn’t set in Pannonia. Instead, it leads into Chapter One, which officially starts the campaign in Pannonia Secunda in AD 351, along the Danube River border.
About the full game
This project explores the locations of ancient Roman settlements like Teutoburgium (Dalj) and Mursa (Osijek). Researchers used archaeological maps, regional studies, and information from museums to recreate these sites. They consulted historical texts, including writings by Celsus and Galen, as well as the Notitia Dignitatum and local publications. They also worked with experts to guarantee the information was historically and linguistically correct.
