On New Year’s Day, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame saw a record-breaking number of viewers for its induction ceremony, with an average of 4.6 million people tuning in to watch the primetime special on ABC.

Last year, the induction ceremony attracted 3.1 million viewers, but this year it saw a substantial boost with approximately 5.86 million viewers – that’s an impressive 49% increase! Additionally, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony also witnessed a significant improvement in its rating among adults aged 18-49. This year, it managed to secure a rating of 0.5, marking a 39% rise from the 0.36 achieved in 2023. Remarkably, this year’s demo rating equals the show’s highest in the past two decades, matching the rating on March 21, 2004.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that our three-hour special not only broke my personal viewing records but also marked the highest-rated primetime entertainment program on network TV in six years! Last seen on New Year’s Day, 2019, it’s been a long time coming for such an impressive viewership milestone.

Even though it was broadcast on New Year’s Day 2025, the record-breaking ceremony honored the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2024 inductees. The esteemed group included Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest. Extra honors were bestowed upon Alexis Korner, John Mayall, and Big Mama Thornton for their Influential Musical Contributions; Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick, Norman Whitfield for Musical Excellence; and Suzanne De Passe for the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Originally held in Cleveland, Ohio on October 19th, the event was later broadcast on ABC on New Year’s Day, with a replay available on Hulu the following day. Alongside the inductees and award recipients, artists such as Busta Rhymes, Dr. Dre, Demi Lovato, Dua Lipa, Jelly Roll, and Keith Urban all made guest appearances during the event.

The event was organized by Joel Gallen and Tenth Planet Productions, with John Sykes, Joel Peresman, and Joel Gallen serving as executive producers.
