Okay, so I just finished watching the new Robin Hood series, and it’s actually topping the charts on streaming here in the US right now! You might recognize the lead, Sean Bean – he’s a fantasy legend, having played Boromir in The Lord of the Rings and, of course, Ned Stark in Game of Thrones. It started on MGM+ back on November 2nd and just wrapped up its first season on December 28th. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into that kind of thing!
According to data from FlixPatrol today, January 6th, Robin Hood is currently the most popular show on MGM+, topping the global charts. It’s followed by Power Book IV: Force in second place, with Spartacus: House of Ashur, Power Book II: Ghost, From, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, The Institute, Godfather of Harlem, and BMF rounding out the top ten.
Currently, Robin Hood is the most popular title on MGM+ in both the UK and the US. It’s outperforming other films like Afterburn, Roofman, The Naked Gun, A Working Man, The Magnificent Seven, The Tomorrow War, and Billy the Kid.
Robin Hood, created by Jonathan English and John Glenn, tells the story of Rob, a Saxon forester’s son, and Marian, the daughter of a Norman earl. Set after the Norman Conquest of England, the series follows their fight for justice and freedom. Rob leads a group of outlaws while Marian goes undercover in the Norman courts. Together, they work to expose corruption, bring peace to England, and evade the Sheriff of Nottingham.
The cast of Robin Hood features Jack Patten as Robin, Lauren McQueen as Marian, and Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham. Other stars include Lydia Peckham, Kiara Kalina Jordan, Marcus Fraser as Little John, Henry Rowley as Will Gamewell, Erica Ford as Rosemary “Ralph” Miller, Angus Castle-Doughty as Friar Tuck, Steven Waddington as the Earl of Huntingdon, and Connie Nielsen as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine.
The movie Robin Hood has been generally well-received, earning a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics describe it as a classic and faithful retelling of the Robin Hood story, without attempting any major changes. While it doesn’t reinvent the legend, its solid execution makes it an enjoyable and lighthearted film.
During an interview, the main actors of Robin Hood, Jack Patten and Lauren McQueen, excitedly talked about the chances of a second season.
As a fan, I’m really hoping we get a second season! Jack Patten has said they’d absolutely love to do one, and honestly, who wouldn’t? He mentioned that Jonathan English and John Glenn created such fantastic characters – as an actor, he says having a character arc like that is a dream come true, and you can’t really ask for anything more. It sounds like everyone involved really cares about the story and the characters, and that makes me even more excited for what could be!
Lauren McQueen says the first season wraps up in a compelling way for all the characters. While there’s potential for more, they focused on making this season the best it could be. She also praised the cast as being incredibly talented and energetic, describing them as a close-knit family, and believes that chemistry shines through in the show.
The new series Robin Hood quickly became the most popular show on MGM+, debuting at No. 1 just as A24 released the first trailer for Death of Robin Hood. This upcoming film is a darker take on the classic story, written and directed by Michael Sarnoski (known for Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One) and starring Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe.
