I’m a big gamer, so I always get excited when a new video game adaptation is announced. The latest news is a Far Cry TV show, which looks promising! This new FX series is being developed by the creators of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Alien: Earth, and it has the potential to be as successful as shows like Fallout or The Last of Us when it airs.
It’s still early days for the new series – it was only officially announced in November 2025 by Deadline, along with news of the talented team working on it. However, I’ve managed to learn a few things, and I’m really excited about what’s coming!
What Is The Far Cry Premiere Date?

When will the Far Cry TV show debut? FX hasn’t announced any release dates yet, but it’s very unlikely we’ll see it in 2025 – we’re already looking forward to Season 2 of Fallout! My best guess is that the series will premiere towards the end of 2026 or in early 2027.
When Far Cry debuts on FX, it will be accessible to Hulu subscribers—and those with a Disney+ bundle—just like shows such as The Bear, Shogun, and Alien: Earth. We expect to learn more details in the weeks and months ahead.
What Is Far Cry About?

If you’re new to the Far Cry series, here’s a quick overview. Starting with the first game in March 2004, Far Cry has grown into a major franchise with six core games, plus several spin-offs and expansions, released on many different gaming consoles over the years.
These popular open-world games let you experience incredible adventures as a player character. You can overthrow dictators in made-up Caribbean islands, confront dangerous criminals in Asia, battle a cult in Montana, or even try to survive in the Stone Age. Known for their wild characters, exciting action, and familiar Ubisoft gameplay, these games have entertained players worldwide for years.
The Show Will Be An Anthology Series
Creating a TV series based on the Far Cry games—where each game features a unique story and location—presents a challenge. It seems the show’s creators are tackling this by making it an anthology series, much like the games themselves. According to a recent report, each season will tell a complete, self-contained story with a fresh setting and new characters.
The show has a lot of possibilities with its many games, locations, characters, and relationships. It’s still unclear whether the new series will directly adapt the existing games or create original stories within the world of Far Cry.
Rob Mac And Noah Hawley Are Spearheading The Video Game Adaptation

Last August, Ubisoft accidentally published a notice revealing that Rob McElhenney (also known as Rob Mac) and Noah Hawley were collaborating on a television series based on the Far Cry video game. Although the announcement was taken down quickly, the news spread online and sparked a lot of excitement and discussion.
As a huge fan, I was thrilled to hear the official confirmation in November 2025 – it’s really happening! The team behind some fantastic shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fargo, Mythic Quest, and even Alien: Earth are joining forces to adapt one of the biggest and most beloved game franchises of the 21st century into a major TV series. I can’t wait to see what they do with it!
The Far Cry Cast

Details about the cast of the upcoming Far Cry TV series are still coming in, but we already know one star: Rob Mac. News sources like Variety announced his involvement when the show was officially confirmed for November 2025.
I’m really excited about the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star joining the show, even though we don’t know who he’ll be playing yet! Will he be a good guy, a bad guy, or just there to make us laugh? And we don’t know if he’ll be in every season. But honestly, Mac is usually fantastic in It’s Always Sunny, and he’s often the heart of their best episodes, so I’m confident he’ll do great!
We’ll be announcing the rest of the cast for the first season in the next few weeks and months, so stay tuned for more updates.
Oddly Enough, This Isn’t The First Far Cry TV Show

Video game movies have a mixed track record – for every success, there are plenty of failures. One notable flop came in 2008 with Uwe Boll’s film, Far Cry, inspired by the original video game. Starring Til Schweiger, known for roles in films like Inglourious Basterds and SLC Punk, the movie didn’t do well in theaters and has largely been forgotten since. Perhaps that’s a good thing.
That wasn’t the only interesting take on the Far Cry world. Before Far Cry 3 came out in 2012, actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse – best known as McLovin – appeared in a short online series called The Far Cry Experience. It began with Mintz-Plasse playing a version of himself and demonstrating his survival abilities, but soon turned into a desperate fight for his life when he crossed paths with the game’s unpredictable villain, Vaas (played by Michael Mando).
You’ll be hearing a lot more news about the Far Cry TV series soon. We’re hoping it will be another big hit for FX, and perhaps even bring this hilarious, action-filled, and unpredictable franchise to a wider audience.
