Here are things that could potentially overwhelm and ruin your mind: (1) zombies; (2) the TV show Riverdale; and (3) a zombie-themed spin-off of Riverdale. According to Deadline, Disney+ is currently working on Afterlife With Archie, a dramatic, hour-long series set during the apocalypse. It’s being written and produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti – the same creative team behind Riverdale and Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
If the idea of a zombie show featuring Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, and their friends seems strange, you clearly haven’t been following Riverdale! First of all, Afterlife With Archie is actually inspired by a real series of horror Archie comic books that Aguirre-Sacasa wrote back in 2013 and 2014. Plus, a zombie outbreak wouldn’t even be the most unusual event to occur in the town of Riverdale. Just to give you an idea, here’s a quick rundown of things far scarier than zombies that happened during the show’s seven seasons:
The show features a truly bizarre mix of storylines: cult abductions, an illegal organ harvesting operation, ritualistic human sacrifice, a serial killer known as “The Black Hood,” a character called the “Gargoyle King,” sightings of “Mothman,” even the Devil himself. It delves into the idea of a “serial-killer gene,” a haunted doll linked to a tragic past, and a disturbing relationship involving a deceased twin. Other plot points include a fight club within a juvenile detention center, exploitative content involving underage individuals, Veronica developing a deadly, pheromone-based venom, a plague reminiscent of Biblical times affecting the town’s children, and, surprisingly, musical numbers.
Honestly, TV hasn’t felt right since Riverdale ended in 2023. I’m really hoping Disney+ brings it back – and quickly! They need to revive that show as soon as possible, because nothing else quite hits the same way. It’s been a real struggle finding something to fill the void, and I’m constantly checking for news about a potential return. Riverdale just had a special something.
