Jeremy Irvine shared that filming the video game adaptation *Return to Silent Hill* was incredibly chaotic, so much so that he immediately went to a spa for some much-needed relaxation afterward.
Silent Hill is a very popular video game series, but the movies based on it have been inconsistent in quality.
The first Silent Hill movie came out in 2006 and was praised for its creepy and unsettling atmosphere, thanks to director Christoph Gans.
The 2012 film, Silent Hill: Revelation, wasn’t successful, receiving a low 8% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and effectively ending the series. However, that might be changing now…
Jeremy Irvine’s character experiences “intense mental breakdown” in Return to Silent Hill

Christoph Gans is back to write and direct a new Silent Hill movie, Return to Silent Hill, scheduled for release in January 2026. The film is inspired by the popular horror game, Silent Hill 2.
Jeremy Irvine stars as James Sunderland, a man on a desperate search for the love of his life, Mary. The emotional journey deeply affects him throughout the film.
Irvine describes the movie as energetic and unpredictable. As a fan of the original game, he was thrilled when offered the role, saying he took the job because his younger self would have been incredibly excited.

It’s enjoyable, but constantly feeling afraid is draining. My character is experiencing a major mental health crisis and has imagined a world filled with monsters as a result.
That was the most challenging job I’ve ever taken on. I was so drained afterward that I immediately went to a spa in Switzerland to recover.
Although filming for Return to Silent Hill wrapped up in early 2024, it’s been a lengthy wait for fans to finally see the movie. Thankfully, Cineverse, the company behind the Terrifier films, is releasing it on January 23, 2026.
