Resident Evil VR mod lets you physically run and dodge in real life

Fans have created a virtual reality mod for recent Resident Evil games, allowing players to experience the game with full-body tracking for a more immersive experience.

A modder named PrayDog has released REFramework, a free tool that adds full VR support to several Resident Evil games. This includes Resident Evil 2 Remake, 3, 4, 7, Village, and the recently released Resident Evil Requiem. You can find the mod on GitHub, and it’s compatible with both DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 versions of the games.

This system combines the modification with the Virtuix Omni One treadmill, allowing for full movement, and the ProTubeVR ProVolver Elite, which adds realistic recoil effects.

A recent demonstration showcases a player moving through the opening of Resident Evil 2 Remake – walking, running, crouching, and dodging – making the iconic zombie scenes feel incredibly realistic and terrifying.

While the software modification is free to use, the full setup needed to run it costs over $3,000. Early gameplay videos of Requiem with this unofficial virtual reality mod are already available online.

For a truly immersive experience, you can add devices like haptic vests that make you feel zombie attacks, chest harnesses to heighten the feeling of being trapped in small spaces, and motion platforms that create intense, full-body sensations of panic.

PrayDog has been consistently improving REFramework, and recently added support for the new game, Resident Evil Requiem, very soon after it came out.

The latest installment in this popular series is already getting a lot of attention from fans, who have created some impressive modifications. One notable mod even changes the character Grace to look like Mihono Bourbon from Uma Musume.
