Resident Evil Requiem Will See Returning Characters, But Don’t Get Too Excited

Resident Evil Requiem will center around Grace Ashcroft, who is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. The game will also feature other familiar faces from the Resident Evil series, according to producer Masato Kumazawa. However, the developers want to temper excitement surrounding rumors that Leon Kennedy, the protagonist of Resident Evil 2 and 4, will be in the game.

In an interview with Well Played (reported by Eurogamer), Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa hinted at the potential return of characters from the older Resident Evil Outbreak games. He cautioned fans not to get too excited, explaining that while they can’t make any promises, characters connected to the Raccoon City incident will appear in the game.

Leon Kennedy appeared alongside Claire Redfield in Resident Evil 2, which took place in Raccoon City, making him a strong candidate for the character teased by Kumazawa. However, Capcom previously stated why Leon wouldn’t be a good fit as the main character in Resident Evil Requiem. They clarified that while Leon was considered as a potential protagonist, he could still appear as a supporting character in the game. Despite this, Kumazawa seems to be managing fans’ expectations, suggesting Leon’s role might not be what some hope for.

Earlier this month, Kumuzawa revealed that Resident Evil Requiem started as an online, open-world multiplayer game. However, they explained that while enjoyable, this version lacked the necessary level of horror.

Capcom promises that the new Resident Evil game will be a thrilling and intense experience for players. It’s scheduled to release on February 27th for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
