Resident Evil Requiem For Switch 2 Was Not A “Massive Challenge,” Capcom Says

Capcom says they’re excited about the upcoming Switch 2 version of Resident Evil Requiem, noting the new hardware was a natural fit for the game.

As a big fan, I was so excited to hear about Requiem coming to the Switch 2! The producer, Masato Kumazawa, actually told VGC they were really pleasantly surprised by how easily the porting process went. It’s great to know things are going smoothly and we’re one step closer to playing it on the new console!

We realized it was best to launch the game on this hardware right away, rather than waiting or creating a separate version later on, so that’s what we decided to do.

Okay, this is pretty huge for Resident Evil fans like me! It’s been *ages* since a main Resident Evil game launched on a Nintendo console right away. But apparently, *Resident Evil: Requiem* is hitting the Switch 2 in February 2026, at the same time as the versions for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. I’m seriously excited!

Capcom developer Koshi Nakanishi explained that Requiem is being built with flexibility in mind. This means it can run on the Switch 2, even though the console isn’t as powerful as other gaming systems. Nakanishi stated that adapting the game to the Switch 2 wasn’t a major hurdle, as the development team had already created scalable graphics options for more powerful platforms like PCs and other consoles.

Both Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village will be available on the new Switch 2 console when it launches in 2026, along with the game Requiem.

Kumazawa explained that Capcom initially tested Resident Evil Village on the Switch 2 development kits they received. Seeing that Village ran well on the new hardware gave them confidence to also explore bringing Requiem to the Switch 2.

As a fan, I totally get why they’re releasing all the older games alongside the new one, Requiem! It’s awesome because if you’re new to the series – or even if you’ve never played on Switch before – you can instantly dive into the last three games. You can start with Requiem and then go back to games 7, 8, and 9, or jump right into those older titles if you prefer. It’s a perfect way to experience everything!

Besides the upcoming Resident Evil: Requiem, Sony is also making another Resident Evil movie. Zach Cregger, known for directing Barbarian and Weapons, will be writing and directing this new film, which is scheduled for release in September 2026.

CD Projekt Red previously stated that getting Cyberpunk 2077 to work on the Switch 2 wasn’t proving too difficult. However, Gearbox has postponed the Switch 2 release of Borderlands 4 after encountering technical problems with the game on other systems.
