Paul Walter Hauser is joining the cast of the new Resident Evil movie, which will be directed by Zach Cregger, known for his work on Barbarian and Weapons.
Lily Gao Hauser will appear alongside Austin Abrams-known from his role in *Weapons*-in the upcoming *Resident Evil* movie. Deadline was the first to announce Hauser’s casting.
Jeff Hauser is a well-established actor who recently received praise for his performance in *The Luckiest Man in America*, a film about Michael Larson’s impressive win on the 1980s game show *Press Your Luck*. He’s also known for his roles in several other popular projects, including the 2019 Clint Eastwood film *Richard Jewell*, as well as *Cobra Kai*, *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, *The Naked Gun*, and *I, Tonya*.
Filming for the new Resident Evil movie starts in Prague this October, and we should find out who’s starring in it soon.
The movie isn’t a direct adaptation of any specific Resident Evil game’s story, but it’s set within the same universe as Resident Evil 2 and 3. Director and co-writer Cregger, along with Shay Hatten, aimed for a tone similar to that of Resident Evil 4.
“I’ve never seen a movie like it,” he added. “I am beyond excited making this,” he said.
Paul W.S. Anderson previously directed six Resident Evil films, but the director of the new movie, Cregger, hasn’t seen any of them. He believes fans of the older films might not like his take on the story. While Sony Pictures released the previous movies – which earned over $1 billion total – they are also releasing Cregger’s film.
The latest Resident Evil film is scheduled to hit theaters on September 18, 2026. Sony Pictures will also be releasing a live-action Zelda movie in May 2027.
Capcom plans to release Resident Evil 9: Requiem in February 2026, and will also be bringing some older Resident Evil games to the new Switch 2 console.
