There’s chatter about the possibility of an updated version of Resident Evil 5 coming to Xbox Series X|S, as it has received a new rating from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB). This speculation arises following a similar recent rating for Resident Evil 6. Notably, Capcom often ports its older Resident Evil titles onto newer gaming platforms.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that Resident Evil doesn’t seem to have any official comment about this rating, but if you’ve played it before, you know it’s the usual Resident Evil experience. The ESRB M for Mature label does warn about realistic gunfire sounds, strong language, occasional limb detachment, and other violent scenes involving chainsaws – pretty much what you’d expect from a game in this series.

Initially launched in 2009 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, Resident Evil 5 was subsequently re-launched in 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One. Currently, it can be played on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S due to backwards compatibility. Notably, the game was more action-oriented than its predecessors and introduced a cooperative gameplay mechanism that was novel within the series at the time. Its control system and some accusations of racism did receive criticism, but overall, it was generally well-received and is one of Capcom’s top-selling games ever.
Apart from the Resident Evil series, Capcom has quite a few exciting games lined up for release. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne launches soon, and the latest Capcom presentation confirmed that Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection – Arcade Classics will be available on Xbox this month, followed by the launch of Capcom Fighting Collection 2 in May. Also, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is getting a remaster later this year, and there are plans to reboot the original Onimusha game. Additionally, an Okami sequel is currently under development.
