REPLACED, first announced in 2021, is the debut game from Sad Cat Studio, and the developers are carefully crafting it to be as polished as possible.
Originally planned for 2023, the game’s release was pushed back so the developers could polish it to the highest standard. They’ve now announced it will be available on March 12th, 2026.

As artificial intelligence increasingly impacts creative fields and reshapes the video game world, this independently developed platformer shines with beautifully hand-painted animations and updated visual effects.
In a twist, the game REPLACED puts you in the role of an AI stuck inside a human body. You’ll battle through a dark, futuristic world to uncover the hidden truths about the Phoenix Corporation – the very company that brought you into existence.
The Sad Cat team has crafted a remarkably immersive and visually distinct 2.5D world by blending 3D movement, 2D animation, and clever camera work – much of which was painstakingly created by hand.
The developers of REPLACED say the main character features over 500 carefully hand-drawn animations specifically for moving around the game’s levels.
The game isn’t just visually stunning; its sound design is also getting a lot of attention. The moody, synth-based music perfectly matches the dark and bleak world the game creates.
In a recent 13-minute gameplay video released in 2024, the developers at Sad Cat Studios highlighted their commitment to smooth transitions between gameplay and cutscenes, aiming to create a more immersive experience for players.
REPLACED will launch on PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG), Xbox Series X|S, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass starting March 12, 2026.
