You might recognize Maximilian Osinski from his role as hacker Boris Peskov in the Paramount+ series *NCIS: Tony & Ziva*. But if you watch *Ted Lasso*, you’ll know him as Zava, the soccer player who was briefly on AFC Richmond in Season 3. Interestingly, Osinski recently told TopMob that despite playing a skilled footballer on screen, he actually injured a co-star while filming a scene on the Apple TV+ show.
During a recent interview with the actor about *NCIS: Tony & Ziva*, he reminisced about filming the robot dog scene in Episode 8. When I shifted the conversation to *Ted Lasso* and asked if he had any memorable stories from the Emmy-winning show, he began by saying:
I have a funny story from the set! It was my first day playing Zava, and we were filming a football scene. I actually met Toheeb [Jimoh] that day. While we were shooting, I jumped up and accidentally hit him in the eye socket with my shoulder – he needed an ice pack! I was so embarrassed, it was day one and I almost injured an Emmy nominee! Thankfully, it wasn’t too serious.
Toheeb Jimoh starred as Sam Obisanya, a key player for AFC Richmond throughout the first three seasons of *Ted Lasso*. He became a regular cast member in Season 3, so it was especially upsetting when his character was accidentally injured – hit in the eye socket by Maximilian Osinski, who was understandably upset about the mishap.

Thankfully, Jimoh’s injury wasn’t serious, and he handled the collision with Osinski surprisingly well. The actor from Zava went on to say:
That was really funny! He had a great sense of humor about it, and we all laughed and even took a picture with an ice pack – I think I shared it online. But honestly, everyone on the show was amazing. Hannah Waddingham was fantastic, and it felt like everyone was working as hard as they did on the very first day of filming.
It’s great to know Maximilian Osinski enjoyed directing four episodes of *Ted Lasso*. In the show, Zava unexpectedly left AFC Richmond and retired from professional soccer to focus on his family and his avocado farm. But the season finale included a magazine cover showing he actually came out of retirement to play for Los Angeles Football Club, joking that “They love avocado toast here.”
Although it doesn’t seem likely, Zava’s return to *Ted Lasso* in Season 4 isn’t entirely out of the question now that he’s playing football again. He probably won’t be an opponent for AFC Richmond, as the new season will follow the women’s team. Still, it would be nice to get an update on what he’s doing. If you’re interested, you can rewatch Maximilian Osinski’s story on Apple TV+.
