As a seasoned Guardian with years of battling Hive, Vex, and Cabal under my belt, I can confidently say that Destiny 2’s The Dawning event has never disappointed, especially when it comes to their annual refresh of weapons. This year is no exception, with the return of fan-favorite machine guns like Avalanche.

In simpler terms, the yearly climax event of Destiny 2, titled The Dawning, made its comeback on December 10th. This occasion saw the delivery of an exquisite collection of top-tier weapons that any Guardian would be thrilled to obtain.

2024’s version of the festive event initially faced some rocky beginnings because of several bugs, but vendor Eva Levante’s updated and novel weapon collection is impressive, with each weapon, such as Avalanche, being exceptional on its own.

Similar to how Glacioclasm and Stay Frosty reemerged with fresh abilities this season, the Machine Gun has also returned boasting a new collection of perks, placing it among the elite weapons like Hammerhead and Commemoration in the sandbox.

To maximize the benefits from the Solar Adaptive heavy weapon, it’s crucial to keep an eye out for a specific role when you exchange your accumulated Dawning Spirit with Eva.

Avalanche god roll – Meta analysis

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Brake
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Perk 1: Subsistence
  • Perk 2: Incandescent
  • Masterwork: Stability
  • Mod: Backup Mag

Although Avalanche isn’t the sole Solar-element Adaptive Machine Gun, it is significantly simpler to obtain compared to Unwavering Duty from Trials of Osiris, as it does not necessitate participating in competitive Player versus Player (PvP) events. However, both weapons share the same impressive perks.

Essentially, Subsistence and Incandescent are two items. Incandescent isn’t as powerful as before because it doesn’t get help from Revenant’s Artifact anymore, but it still leads in clearing adds (enemies). Since Machine Guns are built for that purpose, the combination is ideal.

Although it lacks the Reconstruction + Killing Tally combination that amplifies Commemoration’s power, Subsistence serves as a reliable substitute by significantly decreasing the necessity for reloading. With Accurized Rounds and a Stability Masterwork, Avalanche nearly matches Deep Stone Crypt’s Machine Gun in precision and balance.

Should solar synergy hold no appeal for you, Target Lock stands out as a stellar choice compared to Incandescent, offering a more substantial increase in damage per second (DPS) by approximately 40% when fully stacked, surpassing the boost provided by Killing Tally at its maximum level.
