Rebecca Gayheart, married to actor Eric Dane (known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria), has expressed her thanks for the overwhelming support following Dane’s recent passing. In a message on Instagram Stories, she shared her gratitude, saying the community’s kindness is helping them through this incredibly difficult time. Dane died on February 19th due to complications from ALS. Since then, many colleagues and friends, including Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes and Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, have shared their condolences online. A fundraising campaign was started to support Dane’s family, but is currently paused.
Jennifer Gayheart and Ben Dane married in 2004 and had two daughters, Billie (born in 2010) and Georgia (born in 2011). Jennifer filed for divorce in 2018, but decided to stay married after Ben was diagnosed with ALS. In a November 2025 podcast interview, Jennifer explained she wanted to demonstrate to her daughters the importance of supporting loved ones through difficult times, stating, “We show up for people no matter what.” She admitted she wasn’t sure if she was handling the situation perfectly, but was focused on being there for her family.
In the months before his death, both Dane and Gayheart openly discussed their challenging family situation. Gayheart wrote in The Cut that despite everything, their time together had been positive, and it was good for their children to see them acting maturely. She explained that while kids often wish their parents would reconcile, theirs understood the reality of the situation and seemed content to see two adults prioritizing what mattered most. Dane shared on Netflix’s Famous Last Words that his love for Gayheart remained strong, stating, “I will never fall in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca.”
