Realtor’s AI-altered photo of home listing accidentally includes terrifying flesh demon

A real estate listing gained unexpected attention when the AI used to enhance the photos added a scary demon into one of the images.

Real estate agents and homeowners are now using artificial intelligence to improve how homes appear in photos, digitally removing clutter and tidying spaces. While this practice is gaining popularity, it also has potential downsides.

A realtor in Washington, D.C. recently used AI to improve photos of a rental property, but it appears they didn’t review the changes before publishing them online.

I was looking at a rental listing online, and honestly, I nearly jumped out of my skin! I was scrolling through the photos when I saw a picture of the bathroom, and there was this…thing, this really creepy, fleshy creature, seemingly crawling out of the mirror. It was terrifying!

AI-altered photo on rental listing terrifies potential tenant

This AI-generated creation is unsettling – it lacks eyes and a mouth and has an arm growing out of its back, resembling something from a horror movie. People on Reddit guessed it might be the result of a flawed instruction, and many wondered how such a strange detail wasn’t caught earlier.

One commenter was shocked by a glaring error, saying, “How could anyone miss that huge mistake before posting? It was really disturbing.”

Someone described being incredibly startled by a jump scare, saying they yelled and even kicked their phone across the room in reaction.

Many people also pointed out other strange details in the photo. One commenter suggested the image might have been created by taking a picture of an empty room and then using AI to add furniture, noting that things like the soap dispensers, rock, plant, and ottoman didn’t quite fit and had unrealistic shadows.

The Zillow listing for this house is no longer available, but Futurism reported that the unsettling bathroom photo was taken down and replaced with a comparable image – without the demonic figure.

AI tools can help real estate agents, but experts caution there are potential legal issues. The REALTOR Code of Conduct prevents agents from stretching the truth, hiding information, or misrepresenting facts about a property or sale.

Stories are circulating online about Airbnb hosts misleading guests with fake photos created by AI. Some hosts are using AI to make their properties look better than they are, while others are falsely claiming damage caused by guests, using AI-generated images to wrongly keep security deposits.

Starting in January 2026, real estate agents in states like California will be legally required to tell buyers if they’ve used artificial intelligence to create listings and must also share the original, unedited photos.
