A modder for Red Dead Redemption 2 has transformed the game to resemble Westworld by programming the non-player characters (NPCs) with individual memories. This means NPCs now have their own histories and can react to events in a more realistic way.
Red Dead Redemption 2, the acclaimed wild west game from Rockstar, is considered one of the best games ever made. It’s still highly recommended, especially for those eagerly anticipating GTA 6.
Similar to many open-world games, Red Dead lets players choose their own way to finish missions and explore the game world, which makes the experience even more engaging. This freedom adds to the game’s already immersive gameplay.
Currently, Twitch streamer ‘Blurbs’ has discovered a method to enrich the game’s many NPCs with additional history by implementing “memories” that appear when they are defeated.
The intention is to create a really strong emotional reaction – a “maximum guilt trip” – but the conversations in these scripts don’t flow as naturally as a real conversation… and that’s because they were actually written by viewers in Twitch chat.
Red Dead Redemption 2 NPCs get memories for “maximum guilt trip”
The concept for the memory mod came from a viewer after Blurbs let fans suggest their worst ideas.
Essentially, Blurbs changed the game to activate a unique “cinema” mode. This mode displays non-player characters (NPCs) in a slow-motion close-up just before he defeats them.
So, after that, the streamer filmed a bunch of scenes that were supposed to be like flashbacks. Then, they actually changed the game’s code so that whenever an NPC dies, these “memories” automatically play! It’s a really cool way to tell a story, and I’m excited to see how it all unfolds. It’s pretty clever, honestly.
Although this situation had the potential to be quite moving – similar to the game Red Dead Redemption 2 itself – Blurbs opted to have the Twitch chat community write the dialogue.
I altered Red Dead Redemption 2 so that non-player characters (NPCs) seem to have real memories – you’re forced to witness them when the NPC dies. It’s designed to be a seriously guilt-inducing experience.
I might have messed up, though, by letting my Twitch chat viewers write the dialogue for these memories…

The outcome was a collection of silly conversations filled with references to internet memes, the anime One Piece, baseball, video games, and a variety of other unusual topics. It was quite a strange mix! More details are available here.
“I may have made a mistake letting Twitch Chat write the scripts,” he admitted.
It’s not the first time Blurbs’ Red Dead mods have become popular online. Earlier, in August, he created a mod allowing players to throw the character Jack Marston as if he were a tomahawk.
A few weeks before that, he spent three days finding a way to mod himself into the game.
