As a seasoned gamer with a memory that stretches back to the days of dial-up internet and pixelated graphics, I must say I find Ubisoft’s latest offering, Captain Laserhawk: The Game, a peculiar blend of nostalgia and confusion. The game, based on the Netflix show and Far Cry spin-off, seems like an interesting concept, but the lack of Rayman as a playable character leaves me longing for the good old days of Rayman platformers.
Ubisoft unveils their latest title, “Captain Laserhawk: The Game,” a multiplayer, top-down shooting game with NFT and blockchain integration. For now, this innovative experience is available for early access on PC gaming platforms, and it includes a dash of Rayman flavor.
Based on Stephen Totilo’s report from Game File, the game is modeled after the Netflix series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, which was inspired by the Far Cry 3 spin-off titled Blood Dragon. In Captain Laserhawk: The Game, Rayman serves as the announcer for combat events, so he’s not a playable character in this game.
To participate in this game, you’ll need a Niji Warrior Non-Fungible Token (NFT). Additionally, you can buy a Rayman profile picture for 750 virtual coins and link it to your Niji Warrior NFT. Essentially, Rayman’s role in the game is limited. Ubisoft has launched this game quietly, with minimal promotion, as there aren’t many posts about it on social media platforms beyond a few articles on Medium.
Discussion surrounding Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) gained significant traction a few years back, with companies such as Electronic Arts, Take-Two, and Square Enix expressing support. However, the buzz around NFTs has noticeably decreased, giving way to the new wave of excitement in the tech world – Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Ubisoft initially introduced a platform named Quartz, based on Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), which faced criticism upon its initial announcement. Additionally, Ubisoft attempted to integrate NFTs into Ghost Recon Breakpoint, but ceased support for the game in 2022.
