Borderlands 4 received a mixed reception: critics generally liked it, but many PC players on Steam complained about performance issues. Gearbox Studios CEO Randy Pitchford has strongly defended the game, challenging players’ reports of these problems and continuing to address fan concerns on social media.
Most of Randy Pitchford’s recent posts have focused on helping players improve Borderlands 4’s performance on both PC and consoles. However, he’s also shown frustration with some fan interactions. In one instance, he told a dissatisfied player to request a refund from Steam, and then used an analogy to explain the issue: he compared trying to make a monster truck handle like a Ferrari to the situation, implying that the game’s engine wasn’t suited to the player’s expectations. He also shared some tips on how to optimize the game’s settings.

Pitchford mentioned in a follow-up message that a fix is being developed for players with problems on the PS5 Pro.

Pitchford showed some of the hateful messages he’s received, with at least one containing racist language. He also said he’d help promote mods created by fans to fix problems with the game.
Could you share a link? I’m happy to promote any additional resources they have for users. We’re a professional studio and have collaborated with Epic and various hardware companies to develop this game, but I always appreciate any support to improve things.

Someone else called Pitchford unbearable, but he replied by saying he still wants to support players.
I’m trying to be helpful. What do you think would be helpful? What would you have me do?

Okay, so the game isn’t perfect. Gearbox warned us about a really scary bug that could wipe all your skill points, which is definitely worrying! They’re also aware the PC version hasn’t been running smoothly for everyone and have given some advice to try and fix it. Honestly, if you’re already playing and struggling, I found TopMob’s Borderlands 4 guides hub to be a lifesaver – it’s packed with useful tips and tricks that really helped me out!
Borderlands 4 is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on October 3rd.
