Rainbow Six Siege’s “Biggest Transformation” Yet Teased

Over the course of the Six Invitational tournament’s final weekend, Ubisoft has unveiled plans to introduce a fresh chapter for Rainbow Six Siege on March 13, during the Siege X Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally, a new operator character from New Zealand named Rauora will be added to the Rainbow Six Siege roster.

The sneak peek for the highly anticipated Siege update is touted as its most significant changeover so far. This overhaul promises visual and audio enhancements, as well as a more strategic, immersive gameplay experience without disclosing the details. Furthermore, Ubisoft hints at “novel play methods,” but remains tight-lipped about whether this means new game modes or other innovations.

In the beginning of the next Year 10 Season 1, you’ll find Operator Rauora ready to play during the Operation Prep Phase of the Battle Pass. You can unlock her either by earning Renown or using R6 Credits, with the option becoming available after a two-week period.

Rauora carries either the precision-crafted 417 sniper rifle, also known as the M249 light machine gun, as her main weapon, while her secondary options include the GSH-18 9mm handgun or the advanced Reaper MK2 submachine pistol. The latter features a red dot sight and an extended magazine. Rauora’s unique tool is the Deployable Omnilink Mesh Launcher (DOM), which functions as a smart, bulletproof barricade. This barricade can be deployed only in doorways and stretches down to the ground. As an intelligent shield, DOM can detect friendly drones in proximity and raise itself to allow them passage.

The Domed Area features a hatch at its peak, which operators can access by firing it open. Both assaulting and defending parties are able to operate this hatch, but the advantage lies with the assailants. When initially deployed or recently closed, defenders will be temporarily locked out, and only an attacker’s presence can reopen it. Additionally, the hatch opens more swiftly when triggered by an attacker.

Although Rauora’s shields are impervious to gunfire, they can still be destroyed by explosions. Furthermore, they lack the ability to dismantle Castle’s fortified obstacles once they have been set or used when Tubarão’s Zoto Canister is active. Additionally, Jäger’s ADS device has the capability to neutralize DOM before it can even be deployed.

2015 saw the launch of Rainbow Six Siege, which has stood out among Ubisoft’s live-service games ever since. Over the years, it has received a substantial amount of support, with the latest updates being full cross-play functionality and more stringent anti-cheat systems. Cheaters are now subject to immediate permanent bans.

Contrary to speculation about a sequel, Alexander Karpazis, creator director of Rainbow Six, asserted that the game has potential to endure indefinitely – great news for the nearly decade-old title. Simultaneously, Ubisoft’s top brass have announced they will be focusing more on open-world and live-service games in the future.
