As a film of politics enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned CNN has brought on board Rahm Emanuel, the seasoned advisor to ex-President Obama and former mayor of Chicago, as a senior commentator focusing on political and global affairs. Previously, he held the esteemed position of U.S. Ambassador to Japan.
The new addition to their team, Jennings, was hired by CNN as they’ve been attempting to attract conservative and right-leaning viewers. Known for his role as a former advisor to the Bush administration, Jennings has become more prominent on CNN in recent times. He frequently appears on political discussions in Washington D.C., and on the prime-time show “NewsNight,” and has even started contributing to CNN’s regular news programming. His backing of Trump administration policies has led to on-air disagreements with several CNN anchors, who often claim he is grandstanding.
In another context, Emanuel might tip the scales. As a past White House chief of staff under Obama, Emanuel has built a reputation for being straightforward. During a speech at Stanford University in 2017, he expressed, “It’s crucial to be idealistic enough to comprehend the purpose of your actions, and then tenacious enough to bring them to fruition.”

CNN has experienced a significant decline in viewers since the 2024 presidential election, prompting them to revamp a large section of their weekday programming.
Emanuel spent six years representing Illinois in the U.S. Congress, and furthermore, he was part of the Clinton administration as an advisor.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College, and later went on to earn a master’s degree in speech and communication at Northwestern University.
Emanuel is represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME), however, he is not managed by his sibling, Ari Emanuel, who serves as the CEO of Endeavor, the umbrella company that oversees the talent and sports agency.
