Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott and based on a screenplay by Ken Nolan, tells the story of a U.S. helicopter that was shot down during the Battle of Mogadishu. The film features a strong ensemble cast including Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Tom Hardy, Orlando Bloom, Jason Isaacs, and Tom Sizemore.
Tarantino explained to Ellis that while he initially enjoyed the film, he felt its intensity actually hindered his long-term appreciation of it. He realized he hadn’t continued to think about it as much as he should have.
I’ve watched the film a few times now, and I consider it a masterpiece. What I especially appreciate is that it’s the only movie that truly captures the atmosphere and visual style of ‘Apocalypse Now,’ and I believe it succeeds brilliantly.
