All the constant judgment, the harassment, and just worrying about my safety… it’s really taken a toll. I genuinely think I’d be happier right now if I’d chosen a different path, you know?
Blaire, the content creator, feels very fortunate to have a thriving career online, but admits it’s been difficult to overlook the downsides.
In an interview with the BBC, Blaire shared that she would advise her younger self to avoid streaming altogether, citing years of harassment she’s faced.
Looking back, she said she’d tell her younger self not to go through with it. “If I could go back and whisper something in my ear, I’d say, ‘Don’t do it,’” she explained.

Honestly, it’s scary how much negativity I could find in my Instagram DMs right now. I could easily share a hundred awful messages about the threats or harm people send me. It’s just… a lot.
In 2021, she reported spending over $2,000 monthly to get altered images of herself taken down from the internet. This issue escalated in 2023 when she discovered deepfake videos using her image in adult content.
The streamer explained she didn’t often go to her Los Angeles craft shop because she didn’t want to put her employees at risk. She said men had frequently come to the shop specifically looking for her.
In 2025, there were multiple reports of streamers being attacked while appearing at public events. This has led to questions about whether platforms can adequately protect well-known attendees.
Pokimane, Valkyrae, and QTCinderella chose not to go to TwitchCon 2025 in September because they were worried about their safety. Sadly, another content creator, Emiru, was attacked while at the event in October.
Blaire, the creator of the Streamer Awards, told the BBC she expects security to be very tight at this year’s event.
She explained that bringing people together is a priority for her, as she believes there’s a lot of negativity online.
