Purplecliffe continues tradition of failing first Shiny encounters in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Pokemon content creator Purplecliffe has once again missed out on catching a rare, shiny Pokemon. This happened while playing Pokemon Legends Z-A, marking the third time in a row he’s failed to catch a shiny from a third-generation Pokemon game.

Purplecliffe has become famous in the Pokemon community for his incredibly unlucky streak with Shiny Pokemon. After missing opportunities to catch rare, colorful versions of Bidoof and Lechonk in previous games, his misfortune has continued in the new game, Pokemon Legends Z-A, making it a long-running joke among fans.

Purplecliffe recently reached out to YouTuber Pointcrow during a livestream to get tips on finding Shiny Pokémon in the new game. Pointcrow explained that unlike previous games, Shiny Pokémon in Legends Z-A don’t disappear, meaning you’re guaranteed to eventually find them. This was welcome news for Purplecliffe, who was hoping to overcome a streak of bad luck with game launches.

Tragedy strikes Purplecliffe again

Just a short while after, he found a rare, Shiny Buneary in Wild Zone 6, but his relief didn’t last long. He got so excited that he accidentally defeated it before he could even try to catch it. Realizing he was out of Pokeballs, he quickly ran to the nearest PokeCenter to buy more.

When he went back to where he first saw it, the rare, shiny Buneary had disappeared. Even though Pointcrow had said it would be safe, the Pokemon vanishing proved a key point: if a player defeats a shiny Pokemon, it will still disappear like any other.

With the next generation of Pokémon potentially arriving soon, we’ll likely find out if Purplecliffe will continue to struggle, or if he can finally succeed after many attempts.
