The team that won the 2026 Puppy Bowl had a surprising member: a dog who had passed away in October 2025, several months before the game.
Teigan, a member of Team Fluff, sadly passed away in October after developing pneumonia, Perfect Imperfections Rescue, a Connecticut animal sanctuary, reported.
So, the Puppy Bowl aired on Sunday, which is always a fun way to get hyped for the Super Bowl. It was a little bittersweet though, because I found out one of the pups who appeared on screen had actually passed away about three months before the episode aired. It was sad to learn that after seeing her playing around on TV.
Teigan, a beloved Puppy Bowl champion who gained fame for her inspiring story, sadly passed away in October after battling a serious case of pneumonia. The news was shared by Perfect Imperfections Rescue.

Rescue confirms Teigan died before broadcast
Before the Puppy Bowl aired, Perfect Imperfections posted a photo of Teigan on Facebook, sharing the news of her passing while filming.
It’s going to be really emotional watching her on TV, honestly. A lot of people don’t know this, but I spent a whole day with Teigan at the rescue while they filmed a piece about her – about what she’s been through and how she’s finally getting this awesome custom cart from K9karts. It’s amazing, but also a little sad knowing how far she’s come.
Shortly after filming, we went to New York to be part of the Puppy Bowl. It was a really wonderful time! We met amazing people who work with animal rescues across the country, and of course, being surrounded by puppies all day was a huge perk. Please watch and help us celebrate Teigan!
“She was such an incredible soul. I’m not sure I will ever get over losing her so soon.”

Teigan passed away on October 23rd. The animal sanctuary reported she was born with health problems, including neurological issues and a curved spine. She had also been very sick with pneumonia soon after coming to the sanctuary.
Despite a difficult battle and initial survival, the organization was concerned about her ongoing health. Sadly, Teigan developed pneumonia again and this time wasn’t able to recover.
This year’s Puppy Bowl featured 150 adorable rescue dogs competing between Team Fluff and Team Ruff. Team Fluff won with a score of 73 to 69, and Boba was awarded the title of Most Valuable Pup. This victory follows Team Fluff’s close win last year, when they beat their opponents 68 to 66.
