As a huge cinema fan, I’m incredibly excited to hear that Jon Bernthal is finally bringing his version of the Punisher to the big screen in *Spider-Man 4*! The buzz is that Frank Castle won’t be alone, and will be teaming up with a female sidekick. There’s a lot of speculation that this character will be a Black woman, and fans are already trying to figure out which of the classic Marvel comic characters it might be. It’s all very exciting for *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*!
The Punisher’s Spider-Man 4 said to be a woman of color
Entertainment insider John Rocha recently revealed on The Hot Mic podcast that the 2026 film *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* will feature a Black female character as a sidekick to The Punisher.
So, I’m hearing some interesting buzz about Spider-Man 4. A few days ago, one of my sources dropped a pretty big hint – apparently, the Punisher is getting a Black female sidekick. Now, my colleague Jeff Sneider and I have been digging for more info, but we’re still in the dark about *who* this character is. We don’t even know if they’ve started casting yet, so it’s all very early days, but it’s definitely a rumor to keep an eye on!
Although Rocha and Sneider didn’t reveal who might assist The Punisher in Spider-Man 4, fans speculate it could be either Detective Misty Knight or Rachel Cole-Alves. First appearing in 2011, Cole-Alves is a Marine Sergeant and Afghanistan veteran in the Marvel comics. After her wedding to trauma surgeon Daniel Alves is tragically interrupted and he is killed, she becomes a vigilante and a close ally of The Punisher.
Detective Misty Knight is already well-known beyond comic books, thanks to Simone Missick’s portrayal of her in the TV shows *Luke Cage*, *Iron Fist*, and *The Defenders*. In the comics, Knight is an NYPD officer who receives a bionic arm after losing her arm in an explosion.
As of now, it’s unknown if The Punisher will have a sidekick in Spider-Man 4. The movie, currently titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.
