Fans around the world can now donate to help Punch, the popular baby monkey, and the other animals at his zoo. All donations will go towards supporting their care.
A baby monkey named Punch has quickly become popular around the world thanks to heartwarming photos and videos of him with his favorite stuffed orangutan, which have spread widely on social media.
All the recent buzz has inspired a wide range of creations, from elaborate artwork to fun accessories like Croc charms based on the popular meme.
After the story of the baby monkey touched hearts around the world, Ichikawa City Zoo is now gratefully accepting donations from those who want to help.
Punch fans can now help support viral baby monkey
The Ichikawa City Zoological and Botanical Garden released a guide for fans of Punch, a popular Japanese macaque. The guide was created because Punch has gained a lot of attention worldwide, and the zoo wanted to acknowledge the support from fans in Japan and around the globe, according to a statement released on March 16.
The guide states that donations will support improvements to the animals’ living spaces at Ichikawa City Zoo – including those of Punch – and help cover the costs of maintaining the zoo and its daily operations.
We’re asking for your support! The ‘#GanbarePunch Supporters Guide’ is now available, explaining how to donate to the Ichikawa City Zoological and Botanical Garden. Please use the account details provided on the linked website. Also, limited-edition ‘#IchikawaCityZoologicalGarden’ LINE stickers (featuring Punch!) are now available!

We’re only accepting monetary donations at this time, so please don’t send any physical items like bananas or stuffed animals. Fans who wish to contribute can do so through the official website until May 31, 2026, after which donations will no longer be accepted.
It’s not unusual for animal sanctuaries to benefit from the popularity of their animals. For example, fans of the game Umamusume: Pretty Derby once sent the horse Haru Urara gifts of fresh grass, and fans of Meisho Doto collectively donated $675,000 to support his retirement.
