The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in Hollywood is causing a lot of disagreement, and the creation of virtual performers like Tilly Norwood has become a central point of contention. Robert Avary, who won an Oscar for co-writing Pulp Fiction, recently shared his thoughts on how AI is affecting filmmaking. He explained that AI has helped him produce more projects lately, and while “AI” is now a popular term, it’s become essential for securing funding for movies.
Avary recently shared on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast that getting his films made the conventional way was simply not possible. However, that changed when he started his AI production company, General Cinema Dynamics. He explained that presenting the company as a tech-focused AI business made it much easier to attract investors, allowing him to overcome typical Hollywood obstacles and finally get funding for projects that had been stuck in development.
It’s incredibly difficult to get films made through traditional channels. But when I started a tech company focused on creating movies with AI, things changed instantly. Money started flowing in, and investors appeared immediately. Simply adding ‘AI’ to the description unlocked funding, and now we’re already in production on three films. It was surprisingly easy compared to the struggles I faced trying to make movies the conventional way. It’s amazing how adding ‘AI’ to the concept can fast-track a project into production.
AI is attracting investors to filmmaking because it offers a quicker, less expensive, and more streamlined production process. This is leading to significant investment in companies like General Cinema Dynamics that are adopting this technology. Currently, Avary’s production company is working on three films: a Christmas movie planned for release this year, a faith-based film for next Easter, and a large-scale romantic war story.
