2025’s CES has begun, and among the significant gaming revelations, a notable collaboration has emerged: Nvidia and Krafton have joined forces to create AI-assisted squad members for you in the heat of battle on PUBG.

In a recent collaboration between Nvidia and Krafton, they’ve introduced what they’re calling Co-playable Characters (CPCs). These characters utilize artificial intelligence to join forces with you during gameplay, a feature known as PUBG Ally. Essentially, these AI-powered characters can play almost identically to human players. For instance, if you ask “Ally, I’m looking for a level 3 vest and 5.56 ammo,” it will search the map for those items on your behalf. Furthermore, CPCs are equipped to spot enemies, provide cover, locate nearby vehicles, and communicate with you using an AI-driven voice. You can view some demonstrations of this technology in action below.

Keep in mind, the footage in this video showcases Research & Development gameplay. As of now, the introduction of the PUBG Ally feature is still under consideration and might not be implemented into PUBG at all.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t wait to dive into Krafton’s upcoming game, inZOI, which seems to be taking a leaf out of The Sims playbook. They’ve mentioned that it’ll leverage their new Character Preservation Core (CPC) feature, although they haven’t shown any sneak peeks or shared specifics just yet. On the mobile front, Naraka: Bladepoint is also gearing up to make use of CPCs in its version, adding another layer of anticipation to my gaming adventures!

As an enthusiastic gamer, it seems what has been unveiled here serves as a blueprint for potential future advancements rather than something immediately available. Krafton CEO CH Kim hinted that this innovative AI technology could bring about a groundbreaking change in the gaming world. Meanwhile, Nvidia head Keita Iida emphasized that AI is reshaping the very essence of game creation and play.

Many individuals question the potential of AI to significantly transform video games, given that AI has long been a part of gaming. Additionally, there are apprehensions from numerous parties regarding the possible effects of increased AI technology usage within the game development industry. Since July 2024, video game actors have been on strike due in part to worries about AI integration.
