PSN Account To Be “Optional” For Some PlayStation Games Available On PC

2024 presented difficulties for Sony due to several exclusive games launching on PC via Epic Games Store and Steam, causing a stir because they necessitated use of the PlayStation Network (PSN). For instance, Helldivers 2 sparked backlash among players, who criticized this demand by review-bombing it, while Ghost of Tsushima’s multiplayer component demanded a PSN account.

Sony recently made changes to the PSN prerequisite situation, as detailed in a blog post published this week. Instead of sticking to a strict policy, they’ve become more flexible with their requirements for two upcoming PS5 games set to release on PC this year. Additionally, they’ve offered some benefits for users who create a PSN account.

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s SVP Head of Publishing, Asad Qizilbash, has clarified Sony’s stance on the PSN requirement for upcoming PS5 games hitting PC this year. Specifically, he confirmed that the requirement for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part II Remastered will be an “optional” one when they launch.

As a gamer, I’m pumped about the upcoming in-game bonuses for my PC PlayStation games! That’s right, folks. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and God of War Ragnarök are all offering special content unlocks for players using a PlayStation Network account. Get ready to swing through the city with even more style in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or explore a new world in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered – all while linked to your PSN account!

As a fan, I’m excited to share that for the PS5 games, God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, available on PC via Epic Games Store and Steam, the requirement for a PlayStation Network (PSN) account will become optional. However, if you choose to sign into a PSN account, you’ll also get additional perks like earning trophies and managing friends.

By registering their PSN account with either the Epic Games Store or Steam, players can unlock extra perks. They will receive early access to the “Armor of the Black Bear set” for Kratos in God of War Ragnarök, which can be found within the first “Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms”. Additionally, they’ll get a “resource bundle” that rewards them with 500 Hacksilver and 250 XP. Similarly, players will also gain early access to the Nora Valiant outfit in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.

Similarly, they can gain access to a total of “50 points that activate bonus features and reveal additional content” for Ellie in The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which will reward them with the “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s Jordan’s Jacket” skin. Moreover, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (releasing on PC on 30th January 2025) offers the “Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit” and the “Miles Morales 2099 Suit” quite early in the gameplay.
